Pre-Brow & Facial Waxing Advice

Writer's picture: ToriTori

Ok, I appreciate many of you have been having brow treatments for years. And so I forgive you for reading the title and possibly thinking "this one isn't for me/sounds boring/I don't prep now so what are you going on about Tori".

However, I promise to keep it short and sweet and if you have any facial waxing, brow, lip or chin with me it is worth a read....

In the last few years I have noticed a huge increase in availability of active ingredients within skin care.

This includes ingredients such as Vitamin A - Retinol, Retinaldehyde, Tretinoin, Vitamin C, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA's) such as glycolic, lactic and mandelic, Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA's) namely Salicylic.

The ingredients listed can cause skin to become more sensitive and can reduce the thickness of the outer most layer of skin. Waxing can then cause what's known as grazing or skin lifting. Skin can feel very sensitive, sore and be slightly red. If this happens to you my professional advice is to visit your pharmacy. When I have accidentally grazed my brows I use Avene Cicalfate Repair Cream.

To Reduce the risk of grazing...

  • Avoid the use of active skin care ingredients a minimum of 5 days before your treatment

  • Let me know if you use any of the skin care mentioned as I can use a barrier to significantly reduce risk

  • Avoid the use any type of physical exfoliant on your face 3 days prior to treatment (i.e scrubs, cleansing brushes)

  • If you have a chemical peel, micro-current facial, IPL or undergo any other laser facials check with the Aesthetician how long before you can have any facial waxing as timescales vary depending on type of procedure.

I think it's great that active skin care and aesthetic facials are so much more widely accessible but it's worth knowing the side effects so that we can prevent skin grazing as much as possible and just leave you with gorgeous, flattering eyebrows or a hair free top lip!

Have a wonderful week. I appreciate you getting to the bottom of this blog post, I promise next week will be something 'sexier'.

Take care

Tori x
