Summer changes...to Autumn

As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisper, we all begin to notice the subtle signs of autumn creeping in. Just as we start replacing summer dresses with warm sweaters, we need a summer to autumn skin routine.

Understanding Seasonal Skin Changes

Sadly as we say 'goodbye to Summer' for another year and we notice the drop in temperature, we may also be aware of the change in our skins natural moisture levels. Colder, shorter days, wind and central heating can further intensify this dryness. So what can you do about this...….. Here are some of our suggestions...

Switch to a Hydrating Cleanser: Replace your cleanser with something lovely and hydrating. Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides and ceramides.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is a great option it leaves skin clean, refreshed and moisturised without any drying or tight feeling.

Exfoliation: It's important to exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and allow for better absorption of moisturisers. Opt for gentle exfoliants, like lactic acid or fruit enzymes, to avoid irritating the skin. The fine textured powder exfoliant with fruit enzymes by Eve Taylor is gentle and very effective or the Resurfacing Cream Exfoliant which is a powerhouse combination of lactic and glycolic acid in a creamy hydrating formula.

If you prefer a watery acid toner try REN Ready Steady Glow Tonic - I love this product... it helps effectively exfoliate the skin's surface, even out skin tone whilst also being very hydrating.

The formula includes lactic acid which is hydrating while also exfoliating, willow bark to help minimise pores and improve skin texture and azelaic acid to reduce redness and even skin tone.

Hydrating Serums: Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by our bodies but as we age production slows so look out for serums including this ingredient to help moisturise and hydrate, resulting in plumped, glowing skin.

Don’t Forget the Sunscreen: Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen. UV rays still penetrate through clouds and windows, so make sure to apply a broad-spectrum SPF every day. Here are some of my favourite SPF's...

Finally - Incorporate a Richer Moisturiser: Use a more emollient moisturiser. Look for ingredients like shea butter, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. These help lock in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier.

Inkey List Bio-Active Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturiser is a multi-tasking power house. It's formulated to strengthen the skin barrier, provides 24-hour hydration, and protect the skin. It visibly softens fine lines while Shea Butter deeply nourishes and prevents water loss to maintain the moisture barrier.

As the seasons change, our skincare routines should change too ..

By understanding the impact of autumn weather on our skin and making the necessary adjustments, we can help our skin to remain healthy, hydrated, and glowing no matter what the season.

Happy Autumn 🍂
